Computer very sluggish all of a sudden

I can't pinpoint it. I tried Defrag, cleaning up Internet explorer, running spybot, Scandisc, removing most everything from msconfig.exe. I don't know what happened but it's very slow all of a sudden. I have WinXP Pro, 512 RAM, Intell PIII, 498 mhz. It's slow going from ap to ap. Anything you can tell me to help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance
Eric

You didn't mention a virus scan, Norton has a free on line scan. You also
might open task manager and look for any suspicious process using up
resources.

Hi,
I am suffering with the same problem but after some
research I found out that it's explorer.exe suddenly
using too much virtual memory and nearly killing the
system. I don't know the solution to this problem but
just adding my findings to this. Please Help!!!!!!!

eric I have the same problem also By any chance is your
ISP earthlink? I'm new at this but I know it was running
faster then it is now.Its just enough to be really
annoying.Sometimes screens take a while to disapear,or
partial disapear and then completely go away. For a while
I thought it waS SOMETHING i PICKED UP FROM email or
something, there are also some oher quirks too.FYI-so far
scan disc,de-frag,sys restore will not fix it .MMy ISP
people swear it's not them! I basically have the same
set up as you do.If you figure this out please get back
with me,I inturn will do the same if I figure it out
first.
