I just got a new Pentium M Gateway notebook.

When I boot it up, the following window pops up with the following info:

wireless network connection status window
status = connected
duration=time
speed=11 Mbps

packets being sent

This window tells me that there are connections and shows me 2 connections,
1 of which it says i need
a password, the other one says that it does not need a password but it is
not secure, but when
I try to connect it doesn't go to any web sites?

First, as far as I knew, this computer did not have integrated wireless. It
is not a Centrino. What signal is it picking up, and what is the info it is
displaying mean?

A laptop does not have to be Centrino to have builtin wireless. Many
current models will have the 802.11b/g built in. If it's recieving signals,
you must be picking up someone else's access point(s) - are you using it in
an office environment, or an apartment complex?

Although you recive the signal, there are several factors that might keep
your PC from actually gaining access to network connection - WEP setting,
MAC address filtering, DHCP and gateway settings....

If it's not your network, you shouldn't be trying to connnect to it in the
first place.

This happens in an apartment. I am not trying to connect, the window just
came up telling me that it is receiving the signal.

Does this mean that it must have built in wireless?

Is there a way I can check?

RTFM.

Or right click on My Network Places, select Properties. Is a Wireless
network connection shown?
