New hardware? Updated any drivers? If you have just installed drivers for
something, roll them back. What changed between the time things worked and
the time they didn't?

Hi Malke,

Actually this happened last week too, but I haven't installed any new
hardware. The only thing I did last night was updated my video card driver
and reinstall AOL - because I've noticed that it happens every time I exit
AOL. There was a hotfix I installed too because it was related to a
connection issue I was having. Other than those, no other installations or
additions to the computer.

I won't comment on AOL, but since this error often happens with bad drivers
and you updated them, I would roll back your video card drivers to ones
that worked. If that doesn't solve the issue, your video card may be dying.
In that case you would uninstall the video card and swap it out for a
known-working one to test. If the replacement card works with no problems,
discard the original one. Here is information about drivers:

Never get drivers from Windows Update. Get them from:

1. The device mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM computer
(HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the drivers.

To find out what hardware is in your computer:

1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific model
machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers anyway)
3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc
Advisor. The older Aida32 is good for this, too.
