Hi,

If you go online and get this problem, it is possible
that your PC has been infected by the W32 blaster worm.

You need to change the RPC settings (remote procedure
call) from "restart the computer" to "restart the
service" so that you can stay on-line to download the
patches from windows update site to fix it.
To change the RPC settings:
Go to control panel/administrative tools/services,
in the right pane, nevigate to remote procedure call,
double click and selete the recovery tab, change the
first failure, second failure and subsequent failures
settings as prescirbed above, click apply and OK. After
the virus is removed, revert back the settings.
CARE: Must not change the settings for "remote procedure
call(RPC) locator"

Or more simple, use other machine to download the blaster
worm removal tool from symantec.com, save it to a floppy
and then run the removal tool on your computer.
After the virus has been removed, go to symantec.com for
a on-line security check to ensure your PC is virus free.
Then go to windows upadte site to download all the
critical updates.

BTW, make sure your the virus definition of your
antiVirus software is update to date and run it reqularly.

Hope it helps.

Mine does that also. Using Win XP Pro, and I think I've
narrowed it down to a USB device driver, maybe my Zoom
USB modem, but not sure. Most everytime it happens,
Windows always asks if I want to send an error report to
microsoft, usually I say no but last time I did and
microsoft said it is definately a device driver problem
but didn't know which one. Are you using any usb
devices/modems?

Disable the default "automatically restart" behavior, and the error
message may give a clue...

Control Panel|SYSTEM|ADVANCED tab|START UP AND RECOVER
