My computer has been turning off completely whenever I try to run my Norton
Antivirus or Adaware scans. I am unable to remove the files that these scans
find because it turns off in the middle. I called Dell and they had me
running tests on the harddrive and scanning it but it shut off again. Has
anyone had anything like this happen to their computer? and what was the
source of the problem??

Hi

Any error meesages to work with? Please have a look in the Event Viewer for
any 'Errors'. If any are found, could you please post the Event ID and
Source?

No error messages come up, it just completely turns off. How do I check in
the event viewer?

Hi

From Start>Run type

eventvwr.msc

I have no idea what any of that means

Hi

Those errors refer to Windows Update. Are you running Software Update
Services?

No, those automatic update things always come up but i don't install them.
Do you think the computer turning off could have something to do with the
fans? The guy on the phone at Dell said i needed a new hard drive but it
only shuts off when i run scans
