I have one XP machine and 98 machine on the network. I
would like to shutdown another PC over the network. Is
this possible? If so, how?

I haven't found a way to remotely shutdown a Win98 computer unless you
use some remote control software like PCAnywhere or Timbuktu.

For a network of WinXP/Win2k computers you can remotely shutdown the
computers using the shutdown command. Look it up in Help and Support.

For Win2k, the shutdown.exe file is not a part of the normal install,
but it's available in the Win2k Resource Kit.
