I have DSL hookup and whenever I'm playing games online my whole computer
shuts down. Doesn't do this in any other application on the internet. What
could the cause be

Depends what you mean by "whole computer shuts down". If you mean the
screen goes black and no sound comes from the computer case then your
computer may be overheating (a heat sensor in many newer motherboards
will shut the computer down) or your power supply may be failing.

Hi mate have to agree with Mr Zieglar. Modern games really stress PC's
sucking all the power from the power supply and really heating the internals.
Have you recently upgraded the video card to a newer more powerful model?
Do you have any heat monitoring software ie speedfan?
The other possibility is a video card issue, have you recently upgraded
video card drivers? if so try rolling the driver back in device manager.
Look at the heat and power issues. Any problems post the peak temps on here
along with your machine details CPUID can help with the internal components.
