Such restarting is usually a hard ware problem--I'd suspect
overheating, bad or flaky RAM, or flaky power supply.

When first information shows on the screen start tapping the F8 key
rapidly. Keep tapping until the Windows XP Startup Menu appears.

Look for an item that reads:
"Disable automatic restart on system failure" or words to that effect
and choose that option.

That may result in a Blue Screen Of Death STOP error message. If so
then the contents of the STOP message, including the STOP code, all 4
parameters and any file or volume names mentioned will be a direct
clue as to the underlying cause of your problem.

Post that information back here.

Good luck

Hello,

I have the exact same problem.
Read my thread here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...osoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support&fltr=

........and see if anything helps.

I think that it is the Boot Sector that's corrupted i.e. The BIOS finishes,
the computer looks for a bootable drive, doesn't find one (because it's
corrupted) and re-starts (over and over again).

You could try some of the suggestions in my thread but so far none have
worked for me. I'm about to invest £60 ($120) and have Dell talk me through
it over the phone. It is, however, possible to do it yourself as I have done
once before (copy all data and settings to somewhere else, I used DVDs and
another hard drive with another operating system last time (so you'd need
another drive and the ability to put it into your machine and alter the
BIOS...etc...etc..., and then re-install XP on the corupt drive and replace
all the data and settings) but unless you know what to look for with the data
and settings you might miss something.

I hope this helps,

Jack

Ron hi.
I to have had this problem and have done as you have suggested I get the following
Blue screen.
"a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to pc.
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
If this is the first time you've seen this screen restart your computer"( which I have done but still not starting)
Then " check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
If problem continues, disable or remove new hardware. disable BIOS memory options such as
caching or shadowing use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your pc f8 for advance startup then select safe mode"
But still nothing keeps going back to restarting over and over.
Hope somebody can help.
Neil.

Ron, hope you can find the solution of this.... My winxp sp2 is also
restarting. I´ve ran hardware tests during 2 days and there was nothing wrong
with it.

The message recorded on the log system was:

O computador foi reinicializado através de uma verificação de defeito. Essa
verificação foi: 0x00000024 (0x001902fe, 0xef8c249c, 0xef8c2198, 0xf72c39c4).
Um despejo de memória foi salvo em: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini062207-01.dmp.

Would you know what´d it be?

Thanks

Lester
