Hello,

Ive just brought a load of parts to build a new computer, there listed
below

AMD 64 3500+ winchester socket 939
Asus A8V Deluxe
Nvidia Geforce fx 5900
160GB ATA Hard Drive
512MB DDR PC2700
Philips 17inch TFT
Thermal take Xaser 6000V i think it was. ( case )

Ive installed everything but my computer wont boot, i get 3 fast beeps
and the start then 1 slow, and i get a blank screen saying no signal,
ive checked things out its not the moniter ( only had it 3 days ) its
not the gfx card or the memory, so it must be the motherboard, ive
been reading other posts kinda like this one,

please help me i dont want this to be a waste of 750 pounds !!!

thx

Not sure I understand. Try rephrasing that.

Firstly, try to keep your arms touching the case whenever you're
holding components. Very sharp case edges can be painful but they
are good for grounding you [kidding].

Remove everything except what you need to get into the BIOS. This is
not easy, but it is easier than total failure. Things you need
installed.
.... CPU and fan (always make sure the CPU fan is running,
always)
.... one stick of memory
.... video card

That makes no sense at all. Your computer's BIOS (well, a program the CPU
runs from BIOS) is sending you a message that your BIOS isn't installed.
That's like my answering my own land-line phone and telling the caller that
I'm not home right now. :)

What I THINK is happening is that your mainboard does not like your RAM.
Your earlier error code was for bad RAM. If your "bios" is not "installed",
that could possibly mean that the BIOS couldn't be "shadowed" into system
memory to run from there. (another symptom of bad RAM, possibly)

I would suggest you shut down the system completely, unplug it, remove ALL
RAM and then install a known good stick of RAM.

DO NOT try to flash the BIOS until you figure out what is causing this
problem. The BIOS flash will likely fail, and that will cause your new
motherboard to be suddenly worthless. -Dave

What PSU??? You need a GOOD 350W PSU for that spec. Have you tried
resetting BIOS to default. Try Safe or default BIOS settings. Is RAM set to
AUTO or SPD because it would work better with PC3200. If you have selected
FSB at 200 the memory will not work. You need FSB at 166 or 333 depending
how defined. You should have bought PC3200. Is floppy cable rigyt way round?
If light on continuous, is upside down. Have you configured BIOS for floppy
present and set first boot device as floppy? Is hard drive SATA or PATA?
BIOS not installed may refer to BIOS for RAID controller, which is correct
for single hard drive on Primary IDE.

You're going to have to post what the *exact* message is because your
description isn't making good enough sense.

The motherboard would not be able to tell you *anything* if it's BIOS
wasn't working, or 'installed', as that's what does the talking.

And, as the saying goes, the dead tell no lies. Don't say anything, as a
matter of fact. Unless ... do de do do, do de do do ... you just entered
.... the Twilight Zone.

Either 'the BIOS' is telling you something else isn't getting 'installed'
or you're being informed that some other 'BIOS', such as a RAID BIOS, isn't
getting installed (which is normal if there are no drives on it since, what
would be the point?).

But under NO, I repeat NO ... NO ... NO circumstances attempt to flash the
BIOS until you have the thing working properly.

Dave is right - do not flash until all is well. It would appear the promise
controller is possibly complaining about not installing its bios, so not to
worry about that just yet. What is your boot order? How do you have the
drives cabled? Do you have the promise raid controller enabled or disabled?

I had the same problem with a MB with built-in raid and I had my boot drive
attached to the IDE raid connector. In order for me to get it to boot, I had
to press some key (forget, but it told you which) then set up a one drive
array and everything was then hunky dory. Seems the board's raid bios
doesn't install unless you set up the array, then it reboots, and does it's
thing. If he doesn't have a drive attached to the onboard raid, then he
needs to go into his bios and change his boot drive.
