Computer pic for Dial-up on task bar

I have installed the vista ultimate, installed drivers for my modem, and
managed to get connected the the net. With XP I had the mini computer pic on
the task bar showing me my connection speed and activity, with vista, none.
I cannot find out where or how to activate this, can someone please help me.

Vista can work with dialup--although broadband is much better. No broadband
available? You have the old fashioned telephone connection? I ask because
some users think dsl or cable is dialup--they aren't. DSL is a LAN, not
dialup connection. Go to Network connections in control panel, select your
connection's properties, check Show icon when connected. Same as XP.
