Computer overheating often

I have a custom built PC, which has an intel core 2 processor (2.4 ghz i
think) 4 gb ram, 3 sata drives as a raid, and a radeon x1950xt.

The problem is my computer makes LOADS of noise when I try to play a game or
watch a video, and the temperature sits at 35 on the desktop, 40 when viewing
a film, or 45 or more when playing a game (if it goes over 46, my graphics
card slows itself down to lower the temperature, or so it warns me)

I am guessing it is due to the warm weather that it needs to use the fans
faster, but is there a good way of trying to keep the heat down.

I have considered liquid cooling, but the power consumtion is higher. Plus
one of my ex-friends had his water coolant leak all over his PC.

check that ur fans of the cpu r working properly.check the speed of
the fans. if fans r working properly then see that the heatsink which
is instaled on the cpu chip has been cunnected properly on the socket

You made NO mention of the cooling fans that you are using on the components
and in the case. Give us a hint...

No problem at all i have encounter this particular problem. simply buy
a higher grade of cooling fan and also ensure their is a standing fan
placed at the back of your computer. That will solve your problem.
to buy a higher grade cooling fan i will advice to get it from tiger

Thanks for all your help, I opened up the case last night, and all I did was
give it a good clean (my graphics card fan ports were SOLID with dust) and
after that it seem to work better.

still goes up to 42 when playing games, but that is reasonable in this heat.
Plus it doesn't make that loud whirring noise now. Probably a good idea to
invest in some different fans though.

And DaveW, I was asking about this as a general problem, so i could find what
the possible causes are. What type of fan i have doesn't make a difference. I
wanted to know if someone else had a similar problem and how they solved it.
I have had this computer for over a year, so it is most likely that something
would have packed up or got damaged, and I just needed a hint.

Thanks to the other guys though, I may get myself some more fans, or just

i will advice to still get a higher grade of cooling fan or get a
standing fan at the back of your pc unit. This noise occurs when their
is a rise in tempreture their for cousing your CPU to produce a noise.
i have three pc of diffrent grade a p2, p3 and a p4. the p3 makes a
hill of noise when playing flight simulator 2004 so i up graded the
cooling fan and placed a standing fan at the back of the pc to help
blow away the heat given off by the CPU. since then i have not had any
problem.
