computer not shutting down

Eddy

I`m running xp pro sp3 on a sony laptop.I recently installed a program
called Auslogics Disk Defrag and after running the program once everything
seemed to be working fine until I tried to shutdown the computer. It would
not hibernate or shutdown. I shutdown manually rebooted and uninstalled the
program did a system restore and everything worked fine again. My question
is, is there any other way I could have solved this problem without
uninstalling the program?

Yes, the cause is from the program.
Window not support or allow program which you have installed in you
laptop.
But i think you better uninstalled the program. Because it will anno
your work or task

Kind of hard to say, IMO. You might be able to
reinstall it now and everything will work just
fine.

One thing you can try is to make sure you
disconnected from the internet (power orr of
unplug the phone cable from the modem) and turn
OFF your antivirus and anything else taht's
actively doing any monitoring of files for you,
and try the uninstall/install again.
Antivirus in particular can sometimes goof up
installs; it wouldn't be unusual.
Turn your AV and everything back on before you
reconnect to the internet.

Unfortunately, you should uninstall, power off,
disconnec the modem, power back on, turn off the
antivirs and anything else that monitors the 'net,
and reinstall the program.
Then do one more Restart, and see if it's
working. It could well succeed.

Quite often, programs that ingrain themselves deeply into the OS mess up a
notebook's power management settings. On the older Compaq's, the fix was to
re-install the power management software. It can usually be found on the
manufacturer's website. Just look for the updates page for your model of
notebook.

Thanks for the help guys, I did switch off my AV re-installed the program
and it seems to be working fine now.
