Hi there all,

I'd like to make a shortcut on my desktop that opens the Computer Management
console from the Administrative Tools folder in the Control Panel.

I'd like my shortcut to connect to another computer for me. Is this
possible? I can't figure it out at all!

Cheers,
Foss

Hy,

You can do that under Windows 2000 and up with Management Console:

Open Start / Run and Enter Command: MMC
The Console starts and you can add/remove Snapins to that console.
Important ist, that after the add button, you select "Computer management".

Here you can decide local or another computer! I guess, thats what you wanted.

Just store your customized MMC File somewhere logical and add a shortcut to
your desk.

Good Luck, Marcel

Marcel,

Thanks very much, that's great!

Any idea how to switch computers using the command line?
Don't worry if not, this is a great help!

Hy, pardon, can you precise your question? Switch?

I assume to open the Computer Management of a different Computer?
You can add as much Snapins of other Computers as you want. You will have a
great list on the same screen.

Cheers Marcel

Marcel,

For example, what could I type into the 'Run' box on the start menu, to
select the right computer?
Sorry if I'm not phrasing this very well, I'm pretty new to all this!

Hello

No, not the Computer Management.
Some System mgmt Tools still go like: srvmgr \\nodename oder eventvwr \\...

Just use the list in MMC. It's great for many computers. I saved the MMC's
with different Filenames for test, prod and Dev Systems... You just buil
groups.

Cheers Marcel

Hi there,

Thanks for letting me know, I'll get to work adding computers to the list
then!
