Computer keeps shuting itself down without permission

Whenever I run basic prgrams and games like Microsoft Word, Enter the Matrix, Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 3, Medal of Honor Allied Assault, and IL-2 Sturmovik, the computer just up and shuts itself down after about five minutes or so. I just recently acquired Windows XP Professional, and before I used Win 98. However, Win 98 never used to have as big of a problem like XP seems to have. Does anyone else have this same problem and/or know how to fix it? Thank you for taking the time to read my complaining!

Running programs like the ones you describe put more of a load on the CPU
and will cause more heat.
Open the case and blow out any dust around the CPU and other components and
make sure the Fans are working.

My guess - and since you didn't provide any details of our system, it's
just a guess - is that your hardware isn't hefty enough for XP or it is
old and some of it is failing. Overheating will cause those symptoms,
as will a failing power supply. Perhaps you just don't have enough
memory. Post back with your system specs, how you installed Windows
(clean or upgrade), and what you've already done to troubleshoot for
more help.

Cheers,

Well, I suppose it could be overheating, my power supply isn't very good as I understand it. I can give you some of my specs as well, or at least the ones I know: I have 128 MB of RAM, it looks like my motherboard is a 1.68 GHz AMD Athalon (I think), and I run a 7500 Radeon video card. I haven't really done anything as far as troubleshooting either. I did, however, install Windows XP clean, not the upgrade way. That is to say, we F-Disked everything before installing Win XP. And that's about all I can tell you for now. Thank you for all your help!

You don't have enough memory to run everything you want, and it might be
failing. I wouldn't run XP with less than 256MB of RAM. To test your
memory, download the free Memtest86 from www.memtest86.com. Allow the
test to run for a long time, all day or overnight (unless you see
errors right away). If you see errors, then replace the RAM. I agree
with GwD about the overheating, too.
