My computer just stops working and the screen goes blank. It is a new
computer, I only bought it in October. It is a Toshiba Satellite A215-S4757.
Anyone have any clue why it does this? It sucks cause it always happens
right in the middle of something important. PLEASE HELP!!!

I'm getting the same thing, except that I get a blue screen with white
patterns on it. I have checked the performance and reliability logs and it
just says "disruptive shutdown", which is no help at all. I'm going to try
reloading everything from scratch to see if that solves it.

Call Toshiba. Newsgroups indicate that many Toshiba laptops do not have
reliability with Vista.

Sounds like overheating.
Should still be under warrantee. Contact Toshiba.

I assume it's a laptop/notebook; have you tried looking into the power
settings - are you running on mains or battery?

Look under Power Options in Control panel (or Vista equivalent, I'm
thinking in XP terms here...), and check to see what "level" of power
management you're using e.g. there should be settings for turning hard
disks off or the screen or going to hibernate or sleep modes, depending
on your use of the machine, and you can save different "profiles" for
your power settings. You probably want the "always on" option since if
you're using the mains power adapter, battery power isn't an issue.

I can't explain, though, why it would just turn off in the middle of
what you were doing. Perhaps the screensaver is set to "blank screen"
or something?

It happenned to me when I installed the backup stuff that came with a Maxtor
USB hard drive. Took ages to uninstall.

Regards
