Computer Hangs

My computer is a HP Pavilion with Win XPSP2 Home Edition on board. It hangs
up intermittenly when Start button is clicked. After a few sections Task
Manager shows up with User Tab Open. I click on shut down and sometime that
happens and at other times it does not and I have to turn off computer with
power button. Any help w/b appreciated. Just got off phone with HP Tech
Rep. No help there. Thanks in advance.

This sounds like a hardware issue, possibly a failing power supply. Here

Testing hardware failures often involves swapping out suspected parts
with known-good parts. If you can't do the testing yourself and/or are
uncomfortable opening your computer, take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigStoreUSA).

BTW, don't post personal information like your address and phone number
on Usenet. Thousands of people subscribe to newsgroups and Google
Groups is (almost) forever. Not everyone who sees your address and
phone number will be A Nice Person.
