Computer HANGS on Safe Mode

Hello again,

I want to boot my Windows MCE 2005/XP Pro system into Safe Mode. It
starts loading files, but hangs at MUP.SYS. I have asked for advice
here and on a tech forum. I have not received any help. I get the
impression that fixing this problem is too difficult or too tedious
for many techs.

Yes, I tap F8. Yes, I choose "Safe Mode." No, I do not need to wipe
the drive and start over. No, I won't take the drive out and put it
in another computer. This is a laptop.

I would really appreciate some assistance with this. Thank you.

Why do you want to boot into Safe Mode? Try this.
Boot normal. Start>run - type msconfig>OK. General tab>select Diagnostic
Startup>OK. Reboot.
Didn't work? Reboot and try F5 instead of F8.
Didn't work? My search for mup.sys found 5 copies - in
c:\windows\$NtServicePackUninstall$, c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386,
c:\windows\system32\dllcache, c:\windows\system32\drivers, and
c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution\download\16b2c96a0c41f4dfdb4d3cc228a4f819.

Good luck, Ric
