computer hangs- helps

My computer is hanging up after a few minutes on the web.
I noticed it happens when I have my pocket USB Pen drive
inserted in my computer. Is there a way to find out if
this problem is Window 2000, IE 6.0 or a USB conflict.
What do I do? I am stuck here. My computer usually works
good but is starting this freeze up thing.
 
Do you have all the security updates and the latest
service pak installed. If so reinstall service pack 4 and
see if that helps.
