computer "hangs" during startup

My computer hangs during startup. Windows XP boots up
and everything looks fine, but I can't go online or
explore my computer, and not all of the drivers load.
After about 2 minutes of this the drivers all load and
everything is fine. What is the best way to troubleshoot
this? When I re-boot in safe mode without networking it
seems to work fine, but when I boot into safe mode with
networking I have the same trouble. Thanks.

I routinely run virus checks with symantec and I normally
use spybot, but I will try pest patrol. Any other
suggestions?
