Computer goes into standby despite my best efforts to not allow that to happen

Gary

I run Windows XP Home. Power Schemes is set to "Home/office desk".
The configuration is:

the monitor will turn off after 20 minutes,
the hard drive will never turn off,
Standby will never be entered, and
Hibernation is not enabled.

My Display Screen Saver is the standard Windows XP screen saver set to
kick in after 10 minutes of inactivity.

To the best of my knowledge, nothing should be sending my system into
Standby. Yet, when I walk away and come back after a while, the
Windows Welcome screen is greeting me, and I need to click on my name
(the only user) to log in. If this was overnight, I will get messages
saying that the scheduled McAfee Virus Scan has not run because no
user was logged in.

What's causing my system to do what I don't want it to do (and not do
what I want it to do)?

Thanks in advance for your help?

Are you sure it's going into Standby mode?

Check the following, go to Control Panel and double click
Display. On the Screen Saver page, make sure that "On resume,
show the Welcome Screen" is unchecked. Click OK. Back in
Control Panel, double click Power Options. Click on the
Advanced page. Make sure that "Prompt for password when
computer resumes from standby" is unchecked.

Good luck

It's the Power Scheme you have selected in your Power Options.
