Hi,

Used to save videos files and audio files on to my hard drive by going
into to my 'temporary file' folder and dragging the file I wanted on
to my desktop. But now, after reformating the computer, the temporary
file doesn't store anything that's been streamed. Instead, when I go
into my 'temporary file' folder, all I get is a "content.IES" folder
( - with even more folders inside containing things I streamed
from before the computer was reformatted).

What is a "content.IES" , and how do I get it so I can save things
that's been streamed from the internet ?

By the way, I used the same disc to reformat as before ( if that
helps )

Please clarify this - your further comments indicate that the system drive
was *not* formatted.

What actions did you take?
, the temporary
file doesn't store anything that's been streamed. Instead, when I go
into my 'temporary file' folder, all I get is a "content.IES" folder
( - with even more folders inside containing things I streamed
from before the computer was reformatted).

If it has files from before "reformatting", the system either wasn't
formatted or you restored data. Formatting effectively removes all data.

What is a "content.IES"

It's a 5, not an uppercase s. It's content.ie5, and is the browser cache
folder for Internet Explorer (IE). Each user account folder has one of
these folders, inside the Temporary Internet Files folder.

Even if you're using Internet Explorer 6 or 7, the cache folder is
content.ie5.
, and how do I get it so I can save things
that's been streamed from the internet ?

It is saved, it's just in a different spot. What changes had you made to
the system to alter where the browser cache was?

By the way, I used the same disc to reformat as before ( if that
helps )

Again, if files predating your system changes are found, the drive either
was not formatted, or you restored data. You may have used a system
restore disc, in a non-destructive mode, and that usually means no
formatting.

You might want to change the browser cache location, under (in ie7) Tools,
Internet Options, General - browsing history, settings, Temporary Internet
Files, Move folder. However, IE will still create the subfolders.

I believe you are referring to Content.IE5 (that is, five, not "S").

The first thing I would do is update to Version 6 (that is, if you'd
rather not use IE7).

Also, you probably need to view hidden files:

(from Bleeping Computer)

1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.

2. Double-click on the My Computer icon.

3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.

4. After the new window appears select the View tab.

5. Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of
system folders.

6. Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button
labeled Show hidden files and folders.

7. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions
for known file types.

8. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected
operating system files.

9. Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My
Computer.

10. Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.

(Actually, there is no need to perfom Step 8. And I'm pretty sure
"shutdown My Computer" just means to close that window!)
------------------------------------------------------------

Location of your cached files (assuming you're using Drive C):

C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files

Hope this helps.

P.S. If you had truly formatted your hard drive (erasing and starting
fresh), you would not have any of the old files you mentioned. So I'm
not sure what you did, but it wasn't a clean install.

Oops, That folder exists in IE6, too. Nevermind. :)
