computer freezes

I need help please. My computer (brand new dell with xp home) freezes for
a few secoonds every minute or so. I have checked task manager and something
called "system" usses the whole cpu while the freeze occurs, also in the
system monitor called performance I get a message saying "at least one data
sample is missing", any ideas?

Yes it can. It sounds like some sort of drive conflict.
