Computer freezes

Hello, I should have mentionned my computer is dual core, it is about 6
months old, the reason for the 40 gig is that I basically only have Xp on it,
I purchased the mainboard+CPU+RAM+videocard at the same time. Can it be the
drive? The drives are EIDE The power supply is rae at 500 watts. If I replace
the 40 gig with a 250 gig and the problem persist what can I be looking for.
Like I mentionned, the computer sometimes does not recognize a partition on
one of the drives. If it was the power supply logically it would not
recognize the whole drive rgith?

Thanks again

Guy

If you've had issues since the hardware was updated you may have
a defective component. EIDE isn't an interface technology, but a
speed rating of the drives. If you have three PATA drives and an
optical drive then your 4 taps are fully populated. You've got a setup
that is mismatched. In other words you have recent CPU/RAM and
Video working with a slower Mass Storage system. ( PATA ). In
any PC the disk sub-system is the slowest part of a computer. It's
not uncommon when certain combinations of devices are connected
on a Pri/Sec controller to not work well together.

If it's a recent MB it certainly should have SATA capability. You'd
be better served getting rid of all those PATA drives and get SATA
to more closely match the other hardware in the machine.
