Computer freezes and cannot control the computer. The
only way to regain control is to turn off the power strip
in which it is connected, essentially powering it
off/rebooting it. Oh! did I mention that I am using the
XP Pro version?

Hello!
Scan your system with latest virus definitioned antivirus.
Go to Control Panel >Administrative tools > Event Viewer-here you look for
application error logs.
Also you may view if there is any crash by opening System information
Dr.Watson tool:-
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr
Watson\user.dmp
Get all the drivers updated.
And also try in Safe Mode.
