First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back

system is kept clean as possible using all those tools already. dont think its a spyware/malware problem.

While your suggestions are probably helpful, they weren't for me. I have tried all of them and didn't get any results. Do you know why this is happening (a problem with IE6 for example) and any other suggestions to try? I am to the point where I am going to wipe my hard drive and reload everything and really don't want to do that

Thanks.

IE opens, it just freezes for a short time. I haven't had any problems getting it to open, it's just keeping it running without having to wait that I am having the problems with

Suggesting that people check for spyware was a good suggestion. That was the first thing that I was told to do. Unfortunately even the quick fixes you listed didn't work for me. I'm at my wits end with this one
