computer freeze with error message when online

When on the internet my computer freezes, while displaying an error message.
Can't log off the internet or close pages. In order to get out or turn the
internet connection off I must shut down and restart computer. My internet
connection is dial up...The error message reads....Generic Host Process Win32
Services has encountered a problem and needs to close...etc...Any help is
greatly appreciated.

The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time things
worked and the time they didn't?

The Second Question of Windows Troubleshooting: what is the malware/virus
status of the machine? If you think it is clean, what programs (and
versions) did you use to determine this?
