I just put in an AMD xp2400 cpu in my computer replacing
the xp1600. The xp2400 would not boot up and I kept
getting a blue error screen even in safe mode. I
replaced the new cpu with the old one and now the
computer will not boot up. It starts for a few seconds,
drives come on and then everything shuts down. I have to
turn the power supply off and on again to try again and
it still fails. It does this now with both cpu's. Any
ideas? HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP.

I'm assuming that you did install a new CPU fan or at
least add some Thermal paste to the new processor before
the 1st power on. CPU's cannot run very long without any
heat transfer or the core will melt. Also, CPU Fans are
notched so they will only fit on one way. If you force a lock
on it reversed, the CPU core will probably get cracked.
You may have BIOS problems due to changing the CPU's.
You should short the jumper for BIOS clear, to get default
values. After clearing BIOS move the jumper back to it's
retain settings position (Normally three staking pins) 1-2
clears, 2-3 retains (Check you motherboard manual).
Then re-insert the processor you want to use. Make
sure the CPU fan turns when you first apply power, If not
then turn the PC off. You may have to reset the appropriate
FSB and Multiplier values.
