Computer doesn't respond issue

Hi, All,

I have a Window XP on Dell Optiplex GX280. After I type user name & password
to login to Windows XP, the computer stuck, I can move and click mouse, but I
could not do anything, there is not any responding from the computer.

I can start from Safe Mode, I checked the event viewer log file, there is an
error message said that is the following:
Event ID: 55, Source: NTFS, Category: Disk
Descriptions: The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and
unusable, please run CHKDSK utility on the Volume C:.

So I go to Recovery Console to run CHKDSK. But the CHKDSK program could not
run complete. It just 62% complete, then stuck.

Does anybody know how I could fix the problem? Do you know why the computer
doesn’t respond? Thanks in advance.

First thing to do is run the hard drive mfg's diagnostic utility to see if
the hard drive is failing.

If you run chkdsk from the command prompt in safe mode, with the /v option
(but not the /f option) it will give you a more verbose output of messages
and may highlight the root of the problem. Make a careful note of any error
messages.

Start > run > cmd
chkdsk /?

chkdsk /v

Counting in octal is just like counting in decimal if you don't use your
thumbs.
