Windows XP MCE 2005 that runs on Professional OS
I messed up my computer and have tired everything I can find on the internet
to fix the problem and I'm stuck, I need help. I changed my boot.ini file and
now my computer wont boot from hard disk. This is how it reads:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(4)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(4)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft XP Media Center
Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn /sos
I need to change it back to:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft XP Media Center
Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn /sos
rdisk was changed to (4)" Dumb move I know"
I've tired recovery console (bootcfg /add) (bootcfg /rebuild)=wont work,
tells me to chkdsk for errors. (chkdsk /r)=takes a while but comes back with
no errors. Try to redo bootcfg rebuild etc... tells me chkdsk again. You name
it I've tired it in recovery console.
I've read and tired kb314477 (error Message: Windows Could Not Start Because
of a Computer Disk Hardware Configuration Problem.)
kb289022 (How to edit Boot.ini file in Windows.)
I have the stock recovery disk from sony but it only brings back my system
to stock, out of the box configuration. This is not an opition because of
things that are needed to keep on the hard drive. I decided to make my own
boot disk and try to get my system back up that way but wont let me accept
microsofts terms by hitting the F8 key.
My question is how in the world can I change my boot.ini file? I don't have
a A:\ drive but I'll get one if needed. I've been stuck on this problem from
the time I got up, till I've gone to bed and this is (Day 5) Please help!
