Computer Descriptions not correlating

Is there a reason why the Computer Description assigned/specifid for a PC
either locally or in Server Manager (the old WinNT applet) does not
correspond to the description field in the Active Directory Users &
Computers console?

The Server Manager computer description does show up under My Network Places
in the detailed view of our domain PCs, however.

This is all very puzzling and frustrating since we use the AD U&C console
quite a lot and this info is not there, even though there's an (updatable)
field for it.

The local and AD descriptions are two totally different properties. They
just don't correlate at all.
