Computer DEscription in AD

N

nw test

When joining new winXP or 2000 computers to the win2000
domain the computer name appears in active directory but
the computer description that is on the computer does not
show up in AD. Why does this happen? In network places I
can see the computer description but in AD it is just
blank unless I manually add it. Is there a way to pull the
computer description from the local box into AD when the
computer joins the domain?

The two descriptions are different and unrelated. One is stored in the
machine's registry, the other is an attribute of the Computer object.
You'll have to script this, e.g. create a startup script that
"synchronizes" the description from AD to the local machine (since it's
easier to edit in AD, though initially it can be the other way around).
