Computer Crashed, lost my Outlook data

I recently had my computer crash and I had to reinstall windows and all my
programs. After reinstalling Office professional 2000 I would like to try
and find my tasks, reminders, etc. that were saved in Outlook. Prior to
fromatting my hard drive and rebuilding my computer, I was able to save most
of my old files onto an external hard drive. Can anyone tell me what files I
need to copy inorder to have my old data for Outlook?? I couldn't find any
..PST files. After reinstalling office, I tried overwriting the entire
Program files\Microsoft Office subdirectory with the older files I was able
to save, but that didn't work. Perhaps someone knows the names of the files
I need to again have my old calendar entries, contacts, tasks, etc?

They are *.pst files, by default they are hidden files.(the default name is
outlook.pst)

Never overwrite a pst file, it will cause corruption. It is not neccessary
to copy pst files to the OL default location, they can be located anywhere
on the HD - usually My Documents is a good place.
Once done, in OL, File>Open>Personal Folders..........browse to the location

I have had a similar problem recently and havent been able to resolve it so
far.

Basically I created a new administrator account on my computer for another
user. However once this account was created it overwrote my original
administrator account without warning and in doing so it appears to have
deleted all of my old e-mails.

I have tried to restore my system to its previous setting to try and find
the .pst file, however I am unable to restore the previous settings.

Does anyone know if these e-mails have any chance of being saved somewhere

Unless you specifically saved them, they're most likely gone.

Ok, thank you for the notice. I do back up the computer regularily, though
not the folder which contains the outlook files.

Do you know why it does this? I assume it is something to do with changing
administrators and the privacy of e-mails and what not?

If you added another account, a new user profile should have been created
that was different that the original (different folder path), so I can't
explain it.
