Computer crash

I apparently got a virus in spite of anti-virus software.
Now I cannot even get the computer to boot up even when I
try boot up floppys. Is all lost, or is there any way of
salvaging anything? I can't even get to a DOS promt. Is
there any option other than trying to erase the hard drive?
