Computer browser starts / stops immediately

We have a few imaged XP SP2 pc's and the Computer browser service starts then
stops immediately saying 'some services stop automatically if they have no
work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and alerts service.' However
this service is running along with the Workstation and server sevices. I
tried running newsid.exe but that crashes halfway through generating the new
sid. There are no logs generated to provide additioanl info.

Any assistance is much appreciated.
