Compression does not change disk size.

We have recently upgraded our share server hard drive
size. We were limited on space and all of the data was
compressed. Everything went smooth. Now that the data is
on a larger hard drive we would like to increase the
efficiency of the server by uncompressing all of the
data. My coworkers are worried that once we uncompress
the data that the server will fill back up. It was my
understanding that it will not change the size on the disk
because Windows allocates space for each compressed file
to open.

Is there any documentation that can prove my theory that
the Free space size will not change after we uncompress
the files?

A link would be great. Thanks!!

We currently have a 500GB drive and 200GB is being used by
compressed data. Once we uncompress the 200GB will the
200GB size increase?

If data occupies 200GB when compressed, you can be sure it will occupy more
than 200GB when it is uncompressed.

Do you really have a 500GB hard drive?
