Hi,

When I rightclick on MyComputer, Manage, I cannot open it.
I get that I don't have compmgmt.msc and have no access...

I've searched my hdd and CD-ROM for that file, can't find it. Where can I
download it ?

cheers

When looking for a file on your WinXP CD then it pays not
to be too restrictive. Instead of looking for "compmgmt.msc",
look for "compmgmt.*" and you will immediately find it in
the i386 folder with an "ms_" extension. Expand it, then place
it into your system32 folder.

Hi,

Thanks guys for your input.
I found the file on the cd. i copied it to my c:\windows\system32 folder,
then rebooted, nothing improved. I found another compmgmt file (w a computer
icon) and I clicked it, nothing happened.

The exact error I got from previous:
My computer>Manage>
MMC cannot open the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\compmgmt.msc
"This may be because the file does not exist, is not an MC console, or was
created by a later version of MMC. This may also be because you do not have
sufficient access rights to the file."

Which file did you copy to the System32 folder? Did you expand it
as I suggested in my previous reply? You can do it like so from a
Command Prompt:
expand f:\i386\compmgmt.ms_ c:\windows\system32\compmgmt.msc

Thanks your your advice.

I've opened the mmc and there is NOTHING listed in the console.
Does that mean none of my mmc have been installed ?

MMC will open with no Snap-ins. You have to click File then Add/Remove
Snap-ins. When the configuration window opens click the Add button to
have the optional components shown to select from.

Hiya,

I can't find "compmgmt" in the Add/Remove snapin, this means that it's not
installed.
I've tried copying the file over from the cd again, and then register it.
No luck
Help ?!

hi thanks for your reply.

i did that and i saw a list of 69 items
so that registry bit should be ok i guess.

if all else fails, i will probably try to reformat or re-install the OS again.
