I have renamed a user name. But even though the computer has the new name
displayed (on the top of the start menu, and log on screen) when the user
logs off the 'turn off user, option still displays the old name. How can I
get it to update this too?

You can't really just rename a user account; the underlying
files/folders will retain the original name. Make a new user account
with a name you like (it will have to be at least a little bit
different than the "renamed" one) and copy over your data to it. Here
is a link explaining how:

You will need to log into the new user account once before you can copy
anything to it.

No Ron, they are talking about renaming a user account and attendant
folder structure, not changing the computer name.
