Complete system restore "FAIL"

Back when i installed microsoft windows vista on my computer i made a backup
on a separate harddrive "D" , now unfortunately my main harddrive "C" has
completely gone to the land of the dead, now i am trying to use my complete
backup on a 120 gig serial ata when i boot up from the windows vista cd it
doesnt even allow me to do it, any other way i can load up my backup?

If you did not use a commercial product like Acronis and generate a boot
CD that allows restoration from the archive disk drive (and I don't know
if Acronis will do this!), then you will have to reinstall Vista and
then manually restore your files from the separate drive (I assume an
USB or Firewire drive d:) after Vista is reinstalled.
