Compile Module Error (TBRun9) just won't go away

D

Danny Oberhaus

Hi there,
this error seems simple enough--but it won't go away.

THE ERROR: "Compile error in hidden module: TBRun9"
The error appears when I open or when I close excel.

I have found the KB article and I have removed all files
from the XLStart folder, I have also removed all files
named TBRun9.
I have researched further and found that add-in programs
could be to blame, so I have uninstalled ALL Adobe
programs, all scansoft programs, uninstalled/reinstalled
and updated office.
I ran norton windoctor and fixed all errors it found. But
still I have this error.
I believe the error stems from using the file/settings
transfer wizard. The only difference in the systems was
Office XP and Office 2003. But at anyrate I cannot get rid
of the error.
Please help.
Post or email me directly if you have further steps for
solving this strange little error.
Thank you in advance.

Since you're getting a compile error it seems that the add-in file is still
on your machine and still being loaded when Excel starts up. Off the top of
my head these are the ways a file can be auto-opened when Excel starts. You
have to see if any of them is the culprit.

- File is in XLSTART folder (there are TWO (at least) XLSTART folders so
search for that location so you don't miss any.
- File is in the location specified under Tools, Options, General, At
Startup Open All Files In.
- It's listed and selected under Tools, Add-ins.
- It's on the command line of the shortcut you use to start Excel (check the
shortcut's properties).
- It appears in the registry with one of the "OPEN" keys under:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Excel\Options (or 10.0 if
using Excel 2002).
-- It appears in the registry under:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Excel\Add-in Manager (or
10.0)
(Technically checking Tools, Add-ins covers these last two since that's
where the settings are saved but who knows what's going on so no harm in
checking these. Use the REGEDIT program from Start->Run).
- There used to be (and it may still exist, I'm not sure) a way to set a
network location in the registry to autoload from. I can research this
further if the other location don't work out.

Good luck.
