compile error in hidden module

When I reinstalled office 2000 and tried to run word, I got compile error in hidden module auto exec. It opens to giberish. Some times it asks for the cd to pull the correct format. But all it comes back as is giberish.
Ive uninstalled and reinstalled, same problem.
Suggestions?

It means there's some faulty or corrupt code running, either in normal.dot
or in an add-in. Try renaming normal.dot to normal old.dot. If that doesn't
fix it, look at an *.dot files in Word's start-up folder (check Tools >
Options > File locations to find it) -- rename them with $$$ as the
extension.

If normal.dot was the culprit you can open normal old.dot to retrieve your
settings, styles, AutoText entries etc (if you have any, otherwise just
delete it). If an add-in was the problem, refer back to wherever it came
from.

Does it start correctly in Word's safe mode ie by starting it from Windows >
start > run with the command Winword /a?
The warning refers to an errant macro that runs on starting Word. The most
likely source for this is an add-in - and probably an add-in for an older
version of Word, so check the Word and Office startup folders for add-in
templates and remove them. You can re-introduce them one by one to discover
the one that doesn't work.

The problem could be with an autoexec macro in normal.dot, but it would be
reasonable to assume that if such a macro exists you would have put it
there?

It could also mean that a virus has been at work.

Neither normal.dot nor add-ins are affected by a re-install. Re-installing
only helps if the application files are corrupt.
