compile error in hidden module: AutoExecNew

When Excel 2003 opens the following error appears in a window with Microsoft
Visual Basic in the title bar.

Compile Error in hidden module: AutoExecNew

also, these erorr when Excel is closed:

Compile Error in hidden module: DistMon

Any help troubleshooting is appreciated

It refers to PDFMaker.xla as being the problem.
