Compatible cartridges

Hello,

What is the truth behind compatible cartridges? Is the ink in them of the
same quality? I have been using Printrite cartridges now for 3 years without
problems in the Epson 760 and at a considerable saving, however I have just
bought the Epson R300 and am a little wary of putting Compatible cartridges
in without knowing for sure if I am doing the right thing, but at around £75
for a set of ink I feel I have no choice. I heard that in the Epson
cartridges there was a cleaning fluid mixed with the ink to clean the jets
as it printed and that this fluid was absent in the compatibles so you would
eventually have trouble with your jets clogging, is there any truth to this?

Thanks.

Hello,

What is the truth behind compatible cartridges?

A lot cheaper,
Is the ink in them of the same quality?

The usual suspects will disagree of course.
AFAIC, I'm very happy with the compatibles.

After 2 sets of compatibles, you have saved the cost of a printer.
Anyway, Epson will replace your printer for 1 year.

I heard that there were WMD in Iraq. Is there any truth to this?

None whatsoever. In my experience (and that of a few friends)
the Epson cartridges clog more often than decent brands such as
PrintRite.

There are good reliable cars and baduns and like everything else there are
some good compatible cartridges and an aweful bunch of get on the bandwagen
quick merchants. Some that I've queried won't even divulge the brand they
sell. Printrite seems Okay and JetTec are well renowned in Europe partly
because I make damned sure they are by testing every type before I sell them
!

Here, you get opinions. For truth, I'm not sure where to send you.

Seriously, here are a few thoughts:

Inkjet technology has been around a LONG time, and any number of
people have had the opportunity to develop ink, paper, and other
relevant components. Is it a foregone conclusion that the major
printer vendors have a corner on the best technology??--I think not.

What printer vendors DO have is powerful motivation to get you to use
their ink and paper--that's where they make their money. They are
also well positioned to influence your thought process. In the
extreme, this could be called intimidation.

IMHO, there are about a gazillion of ink and paper combos out there,
and a large percentage of them probably work just fine. What you get
with OEM is the knowledge that the printer mfg will stand behind
it---call this insurance. For me, a major player like MIS also has
pretty good credibility--ie they dont sell ink for an Epson with XYZ
paper that they have not tested.

I gotta back you up on this Mike.. I'm a long time user of MIS products
and cant come up with a single complaint.

It seems to me (or it MIGHT be foggy memory) they were working on
pigmented inks for Epson printers BEFORE Epson, weren't they???

Thats the way I remember it, but my memory time-line gets worse with
age.

Also, right now they are offering PIGMENTED INKS for several Epson
printers that dont come with them, and aren't sold by Epson for them.
(785 EPX ect come to mind)
