Compatibility problem with XP & HP-895Cxi??

I have a client that is trying to install an HP Deskjet 895Cxi printer
onto a PC running Windows XP Home edition. They keep getting the same
error mesage when they try to install the drivers using the USB or
Parrallel ports. The error message is "Driver not installed, unable
to continue". They have an HP Laserjet 6P installed without any
problems. Is there a compatibility issue here with the 895Cxi and XP
Home edition. In my personal system running XP Pro, I have both a
Laserjet 6MP and a Deskjet 820Cxi connected through an auto-switch box
and they both work without a hitch. Any suggestions?

Thanks
Frank

You definitely need to remove all the other printer drivers and
software before trying to install the HP895.

Then reboot.

Then install the 895.

Finally, after you get it working, reinstall the LJ6

First, I assume you are using the stock Microsoft drivers. I don't think
HP has 895 drivers for XP.

From the Printer control panel, go to File, then Server Properties.
There should be a Drivers tab. Look for any 895's listed there and delete
them.

If you are using USB, it should autodetect when you plug in the printer
and install the stock drivers. For parallel, shut down the computer, hook
things up, then turn everything on. It should detect and install during
bootup.

At worst, you should be able to install it through the Add Printer
wizard.
