COMPATIBILITY MODE ???

P

pauld

I have Office 2007

I read that if I set PowerPoint 2007 to always be in Compatibiity Mode (so
that I can send files to colleagues who have PPT 2003), the PPT 2007 Smart
Objects will be replaced with the equivalent (or similar) from PPT 2003.

For example, I have PPT 2007 and want to insert an Org Chart in a new slide,
but want it to be just like an org chart in PPT2003. BUT...the only org chart
seems to be in Smart Art, which I thought wasn't supposed to show in the
first place...since I'm in Compatibility Mode

Is there anything else I need to do to make Compatibility Mode work like
PPT2003?

I hope I'm explaining this properly

I am curious to hear back on this topic as well. Especially with regards to
workarounds for known compatibility issues when working in 2007 on files
destined for earlier versions.

Specifically, I am having issues with:
1. font formatting
2. layout templates losing a vast majority of their customization
(backgrounds, layouts) and being broken out into Multiple Masters in 2003

I've searched the Help and How-To links for PPT and confirmed these issues,
but haven't been able to find workarounds, if any exist.

TIA!

For Paul, you may have already covered your bases here, but here are some
links to information about checking compatibilty of art and charts, etc:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/powerpoint/HA101076501033.aspx?pid=CH100673491033

And specifically for features that are lost/change with previous versions:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/powerpoint/HA101023491033.aspx?pid=CH100673491033

Looks like you may have to create/edit the chart in 2003 if you can as that
would be the only way to totally ensure that the chart is consistent in both
version of PPT since it may change in 2003.

Don't know if any of that helps!

Dear pauld,

I think you have it a little bass-ackwards. When you open an older
presentation in 2007, Compatibility Mode allows you to open the older
presentation, work in it, then save it to the older version without
converting/saving it to 2007 (you will get a warning if 2007 features will
not convert). When working in 2007 you will have all the functionality of
2007.

To get the 2003 org chart, you will have to work in 2003.

Sandy,

Thank you for your response.

I guess I was under the impression that if had Compatibiity Mode as the
default when I opened PPT 2007 to create a new file, the features of PPT 2003
would be available.

Sounds like saying that's not the case.

Correct -- it's not like 2002/2003 where we could go into Options and turn
off 2002/2003 funtionality.

You might want to start your own thread. Please mention what specific issues
you're having with font formatting. You might also describe what you mean
specifically by losing customizations on the backgrounds and layouts.

The various slide layouts in 2007 will each become a master in 2003. I don't
know that there is a workaround for that.

Will do!

Not sure about what's supposed to appear and what's not, but try Insert,
Object
and choose "Organization Chart Add-in for Microsoft Office programs"

You have to have the Org Chart thing installed, and it must be installed
separately, I believe. At least, I looked for that option here, and I don't
have it, which I assume means I didn't install it. Pretty sure I did a
custom install to get all the various bits, but I must have missed that
somewhere. Or it doesn't come with 2007 and it's a separate download? Or if
you upgraded from PPT 2000, you'd already have it.
