Compatibility from Word 97 to Word 2003

I have over 300 office templates, all created in Word 97, which I need to
update. Should I also be changing the compatibility tab under Tools and
Options to Word 2003? Is there any point in doing this?

I've been looking to see if I should do this, and if so why, but haven't
been able to find an answer anywhere.

Thank you!

Is there any point in your asking? Are you experiencing an
actual problem when using your Word 97 templates in Word 2003?
It's hard to find an answer to a problem that doesn't exist, or
that exists only in your imagination, or that exists but you
can't describe.

Thank you so much for your reply. I believe that you do not understand my
question.

I am not experiencing any problems with the templates. I am currently
updating the templates to make them consistent with regard to formatting and
numbering. I merely wanted to know if I should also be changing the
compatibility while I was in the process of updating the templates. I wanted
to know if there was any reason that I should.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Word 97 and Word 2003 files use
the same basic file format. Off the top of my head, the only
potential problem I can think of is if your Word 97 templates
contain embedded graphics, the graphics may appear upside down or
backwards in Word 2003, and this issue is addressed at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=312838 .
