Compatability Question

I recently upgraded my personal computers at home to MS Office 2007. I am
getting ready to write some macros in excel for a project at work and they
use pre-2007 MS Office.

Can I use 2007 and save the work as 97-2003 format in order for it to be
compatible?

Also, is it possible for both 2007 and pre-2007 MS office to exist on the
same computer without issues?

I assume you are saying that my workplace needs to do the compatibility
update?
One problem I may have with that is that this is for one department within a
county system and if the computer department does not think the pack needs to
be put on the computer, then it will not get done.

However, let me ask from another angle. I am also working on another
project for work that will be placed on at least 10 laptops in remote areas.
It will be a lot easier to be able to write macros that can operate on
pre-2007 Office than to have the computer department update all the laptops.

Can I still do this in 2007 and save in the pre-2007 format or can I have
both pre-2007 and 2007 office on the same computer so that I can use the
earlier version?

Yes, that would be the case. The alternative is to save your workbooks in
Excel 2007 as Excel 97-2003 Workbooks (it is in the file types list).

That also answers your follow-up question, as you can save in pre-2007
format. But it is better to develop your macros in Excel 2003, that way you
know they will (with a few exceptions) work in 2007 as well, the converse is
not so true.

And yes you can install 2003 and 2007 on the same machine, just make sure
you don't select the upgrade option, and that you install them in separate
directories.
