COMPATABILITY ISSUE!: VOB files and windows movie maker

our sony handicam transfers all footage onto our pc in VOB format which plays
fine in WinDVD but will not import into movie maker as its an unsupported
file format
I there any way of making it compatable as we have no other editing software
