I noticed that my computer is running very very slow, sometimes erratic.
I checked with McAfee and other safety applications and there is nothing
wrong.
I suspect that it could be corrupted Windows files.
In the past I used to run an Windows application which compared the present
files in computer with original files in Windows CD ROM.
I do not recall which application it that.
I want to know the name of such checking application within Windows.
Anyone can assist, please ?

The app you were thinking of was probably SFC

here is a link

http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

and be sure to read all instructions carefully

my *guess* is that your problem lies elsewhere...
it may be as simple as having too many apps runnning in startup.

you can run msconfig and take out unneeded apps.

you will of course want your virus checker and firewall running at
startup...but I bet most of the other apps can be taken out of startup.

btw: If it turns out that you took something out of startup that you
really need there...all you have to do is run msconfig again and put it back

check ur startup if too many files are loaded during bootup type msconfig at
start menu > run. if so disable all thats not required and the ones you dont
use frequently. do u have windows defender ? its (microsoft antispyware
beta2) install and have a scan also have a scan from another antivirus
engine.

http://safety.live.com (online scanner)
www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx (windows
defender)
www.windowsonecare.com (ms antivirus)
www.freeav.com (avera antivir)

Hope this helps...,
