Compaq Question

I have a compaq presario 5000 and it has a D: drive. I
was wondering if I can format it using windows. Will my
computer still work after I do this? I have a virus and
I formatted the C: drive and I think that it might be in
my d drive

Compaq machines have a special partition set aside for restore files.
Without this partition intact, you will not be able to do a recovery
with Compaq's Recovery Disk (or program - in case they aren't giving
out cd's any more). This is probably the D: partition. Call Compaq tech
support for information on how to handle virus infection in this
partition on their machines.

Compaq also used to put Start-up and diagnostics on that partition (BIOS
setup). I don't know if they still do. Also, you should use a format as a
last option. If ever in doubt, post to a newsgroup or contact your
manufacture's tech support first, especially with proprietary machines. Good
