I found today a bunch of files in my recycle bin with the extension .bak. I
did not delete these files myself so I am wondering how they got there.
Could this occur during compacting in Winxp?.

Rather then emptying the recycle bin I moved the files to a folder on
another drive.
Comments? Thanks.

It's your Outlook express. that's how it now compacts files - it makes a
backup copy of all your data in the recycle bin....

It's the compacting done in Outlook Express.
Visit the OE newsgroup for more info.

Gordon, Tom Willett, thanks for your replies.
I suspected as much due to the fact that all these files refer to folders in
outlook express. I create folders in OE then move messages from the inbox to
separate folders to save them for future reference in some cases.
Thanks again.
